About Lotang

The name

The name's true root is luò tōng (络通), "opening the collaterals": the classical family of channel-clearing herbs trusted to keep the luò, the body's fine network channels, open and freely flowing. Written as 蓮堂 (lián táng), it also reads as the "lotus hall": calm, clarity, and something rooted that rises gently toward the light. Lotang is named for that spirit: gentle, plant-rooted care that honours the body's own rhythms.

The art of tongue reading

For centuries, traditional wellness cultures read the tongue as a window onto the body's balance, its colour, coating, moisture and texture taken as gentle daily signals. Lotang brings that observational art into a calm, modern app.

A single sign means little on its own. A pale body, combined with tooth-marks, a thin white coating and slight swelling, points toward a coherent whole. Lotang weighs and relates the signs the way a seasoned reading would: the tongue body (舌质), its shape and texture, the coating (舌苔), and the regional map from tip to root:

The engine, and Dr. M. Levent Tekçi

At the heart of Lotang is an interpretation engine designed by Dr. M. Levent Tekçi, drawing on the clinical acupuncture and traditional-medicine scholarship of TAoA — TekChi's Academy of Acupuncture. It unites the refinement of classical tongue reading with the discipline of modern engineering, so the traditional logic becomes a consistent, repeatable system without losing the subtlety of the observational art.

Dr. Tekçi is an acupuncturist, author and systems designer, and the founder of TAoA (est. 2018): a teaching academy, an Ankara clinic and an information-technology unit run under one clinical discipline. Around his original systems — TDAS (Tekçi Diagonal Acupuncture Systems), NPPE, Kubbe (NöroniS) and Kronos — the academy trains physicians in Türkiye and abroad through a sixteen-programme curriculum that runs from foundational YNSA to TDAS-NPPE, and maintains a verified practitioner network of more than a hundred clinicians.

Calibrated on real tongues

Lotang's readings are produced through a chain-scoring approach faithful to traditional reasoning, weighing colour, coating, moisture, texture and regional distribution together. To keep it honest, we built a reference set of real tongue photographs, each independently interpreted by an expert within the traditional framework, and refined the interpretation chain against them, correcting systematic errors as they surfaced.

Even a seasoned reader rarely settles on one fixed pattern; they hold a primary alongside a few close alternatives. Lotang is tuned the same way, surfacing a leading pattern together with its nearest traditional neighbours, rather than a single verdict. Calibration is ongoing: as the reference set grows, the chain is re-evaluated so the reading grows steadier without losing the subtlety of the observational art.
